PC Software for AMB Tuning

Tuning on a PC

Magnetic bearing controllers are often designed as embedded modules with limited hardware resources, and so are our controllers. But the tuning is a complex process that involves intensive computation and human-machine interface. A solution is to temporarily connect a controller to a PC on which a piece of software communicates with the controller and performs computation-intensive tasks.

Software development

We have developed a PC application and successfully applied it to the tuning of our magnetic bearing controllers. The application is presently an alpha version and is only used by ourselves. In the future it will evolve into higher versions.

Shown below is a module of the application. It has a text interface and performs tasks such as data transmission, system identification, and sensitivity test.

Another module has both text and graphic interfaces as shown below. Trajectories of displacement and voltage can be displayed in real time. Controller parameters can be modified on the fly.
